Pregnancy Project
NFSC 360: Nutrition throughout the Lifecycle
Skill Area: Community Nutrition and Education
Assignment Title: Pregnancy Project
What I learned: In this assignment I was taught me
how to calculate expected weight gain during pregnancy, conduct a
24-hour recall, use diet analysis software to analyze food intake, and give
diet recommendations to meet a pregnant women's needs.
Reflection to assignment: In this assignment I learned how
important it is for a pregnant mother to consume a balanced diet with
nutrient-rich foods. What a pregnant mother eats directly impacts the growing
fetus and it is incredibly important to ensure that the mother is
not malnourished. This project has taught me how a diet analysis software
can be used to determine the amount of macro and micronutrients that a person
consumes and create a diet plan to fill in any gaps.
Relevance to the profession: Understanding nutritional needs during
pregnancy is important because that is when nutrition begins for the baby.
Preventing nutrition inadequacies in the baby and promoting a proper diet
for pregnant mothers is one of the first steps in creating healthy communities.
Giving babies in the community a healthy start is key for ensuring they have a
healthy future.
