Assignment Title: Presentation on Food Culture in
India
What I learned: In this assignment I learned about the Indian food culture including India’s history, customs, celebrations, transportation, and agriculture.
Reflection to assignment: This assignment was a comprehensive
look into the India’s culture. It gave me an in depth understanding of how food
plays a role in their customs and celebrations. For every holiday in India
there are also corresponding foods that are traditional to consume. Also, I
learned that there are specific traditions in the preparation of foods that are
highly regarded. Furthermore this assignment gave me insight on how agriculture
and climate in India greatly influences the type of foods that are eaten.
Relevance to the profession: Community nutrition is not focused on one
particular culture. A community is a combination of many cultures and it is
important to serve and respect every one of them. Being able to understand a
culture other than one’s own is an essential aspect of compassion.
