Case Study- Celiac Disease
NFSC 470: Medical Nutrition Therapy
Skill Area: Medical Nutrition Therapy
Assignment Title: Case Study- Celiac Diseas
What I learned: In this assignment I learned how to properly perform a nutrition assessment on a patient, interpret lab values, develop as PES statement and treatment plan, as well as research the pathophysiology of celiac disease.
Reflection to assignment: By completing this case study it really helped me fully understand how a patient would be treated in a clinical setting. A full comprehension of the patient's condition is necessary before a treatment plan can be made and is essential for medical nutrition therapy to be successful. Medical nutrition therapy puts the patient's best interest and concerns first and this assignment showed me how to do that. This case study has taught me that MNT incorporates not just nutrition recommendations but also counseling for the patient.
Relevance to the profession: Clinical work is one of the most important faucets in nutrition care. Medical nutrition therapy involves working directly with the patient, understanding their needs, and knowing how to create a treatment plan.
